Cookies and what we store on your device
Most of what this site stores is there to stop you losing your story. The rest tells us which adverts bring people here.
Needed for the site to work
These are kept in your browser’s local storage, on your own device. They are never used for advertising.
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
sms_draft_v1 |

sms_result_v1 |
Remembers your reference and your private tracking link after you send a story. | Removed the next time you visit after 90 days |
Measuring our adverts
These are set when you visit. They tell us which Facebook and Instagram adverts bring people here and which ones lead to stories, and let us show our adverts again to people who have visited. What we do with this is explained in the adverts section of our privacy notice.
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
sms_attribution_v1 |
Remembers which advert brought you here, if any, and is sent to us with your story. | Removed the next time you visit after 7 days |
_fbp (Meta) |
Set by the Meta Pixel. Lets Meta recognise your browser when measuring adverts and showing them again. | 90 days |
_fbc (Meta) |
Set by the Meta Pixel when you arrive from an advert. Remembers the advert you clicked. | 90 days |
Meta may also read its own cookies from facebook.com if you are logged in there.
Meta’s own use of this information is covered by Meta’s privacy policy.
Removing or blocking them
You can clear this site’s data in your browser settings at any time. That removes everything listed above, including any story you have typed but not sent.
You can also block cookies and site data for this site in your browser settings. The form still works, but it cannot save your story as you go.
To control how Meta uses information about you for adverts, use the ad settings in your Facebook or Instagram account.
Apart from the Meta Pixel and the advert note above, we do not use any tracking on this site, such as Google Analytics.
